FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Polwaththa is ideal for families that wish to spend some quality time together in the nature. Get away from the technology and enjoy the simple things in life. Over the past few years we have been entertaining many families who wish to learn about our nature, culture, meet our people and see how families live in a traditional village. Kids have the opportunity to swim in a river or waterfall, visit a local school and even challenge the local kids for a game of volleyball.

Village Walk and River Swim/or Waterfall

This is one of our most popular activities, and to many, the highlight of their stay. One of our trained Village Guides will take you through quaint villages, show you the traditional village lifestyle and how they attend to their household chores. The walk also includes a look at the different vegetables, fruits and spices that are locally grown such as Cocoa, Pepper, Cloves, Nutmeg, Vanilla... and how jaggery (local sugar) is made from the flower of the Kithul tree. The village walk ends with a river swim where you can mingle with locals washing their clothes and dipping their heads in the water or chose to swim in what some may call your private natural swimming pool. Alternatively,  you can swim at a waterfall which includes a 1km walk through a jungle. This can be quite challenging so children have to be supervised at all times.

Organic Farming and Rice Cultivation Experience

Visit our local organic vegetable farm and model rice field which is a 5 minute walk from us. The 2.5 acre land is an abandoned rice field which we took over in late 2022 to grow vegetables and now rice. We are now offering an agriculutral experience where you can learn and experience traditional farming. You will have the opportunity to use traditional equipment, natural water systems and organic fertilizer. It is ideal for families, students and anyone wanting to learn about sustainable farming.

At Polwaththa

There is also plenty to do for the children at the lodge itself. Collecting fire wood for cooking and for the hot-water bath, playing volleyball with the villagers or playing Board games both indoors and outdoors could be arranged by our child-friendly staff…. while you look for some relaxation. If they like pets, there are 6 dogs and 3 cats to play with!
